July 30th marks the 50th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid! First signed by President Lyndon B Johnson in 1965, Medicare is a federal medical assistance program for people over the age of 65, or with certain disabilities. Medicaid is a medical assistance program for people with low incomes.
These programs have been providing medical assistance for aging adults for five decades now, insuring that they will receive proper medical care beyond their working years and into the golden ones. To celebrate the signing of this act, there are Medicare rallies all over the country, including many across California. Check out the link for a list of events nearby!
If you believe you or a loved one may qualify, you can sign up for Medicare or Medicaid online. The website also has a helpful FAQ section that answers questions regarding how to choose the right plan, a plan’s average annual cost, and how to get medications covered.
