Last night I saw the new Pixar movie, “Finding Dory.” Yes, it is about a little fish that gets lost and the journey she takes looking for her parents and at the same time forgetting what she is doing. It is also about the voyage of life and all the people we meet as we seek our direction, the friendships we make, and the need we have for one another to reach our goals.
What I found most touching in this film is the message: In our journey we touch other people, affecting their lives in positive ways – and these touches are at times in our darkest hours. We engage with others, and that engagement enlivens the other in surprising ways – as we see with the wonderful new character, Hank, the octopus.
There are plenty of other messages in this film, and I highly recommend it for people of all ages. The message of courage and perseverance for those with disabilities is touching. As is the message of hope that Dory holds onto, and the message of love and hope her parents keep for her until she returns. Anyone who has had a family member go missing from distance or conflict can relate to these parents.
As is usual, this is another 5-star picture for Pixar – the animation is terrific, and the story and characters amazing. Let me know who you relate to – what character have you played or do you play?
