Stay Healthy this Fall

Fall is such a beautiful season. The weather starts to cool off, the trees change colors, the wind blows crinkly leaves, people are sneezing….oh yes, cold and flu season! It is upon us. But let’s all keep some tips in mind to keep ourselves and the older adults in our lives healthy and happy this fall.
Tips to Stay Healthy This Fall
- Flu shots! Even if you don’t usually get the flu, you can be a carrier, and pass sickness to babies, elderly folks, and those with compromised immune systems
- Drink plenty of water. I know you hear that a lot but…it’s one of the most helpful preventative health measures you can take. So easy and cheap! 8 cups a day.
- Eat well: keep in mind that eating 5 to 8 fruits and veggies a day keeps your immune system strong
- Get some exercise! Make time every day, baby steps: 10 minutes, 15, then 20, then 30….
- Wash your hands often, with warm water and soap, for 30 seconds. It’s hugely helpful in not spreading germs
- Don’t be shy: don’t shake hands with folks that are sick, or if you are sick. A simple “I might be sick” will suffice. Let’s spread less germs!
- Make a cough pocket if you feel the urge to cough or sneeze. This means coughing or sneezing into the crook of your arm, as the image shows, to help spread less germs
- Lastly, if you’re sick, stay home to help prevent spreading your illness to others. Rest up and feel better.
Cheers a glass of water or herbal tea to not getting sick this season!
