I hear so often from family caregivers who feel guilty because they can’t fix mom or dad or be the “everything” their spouse needs. So, these words – from a John Legend song, “All of Me” – ring true for us. In the song, he sings that he loves “All of You” despite your perfect imperfections.
We are not perfect. If we start with that statement – then we do our best with the energy and love we have to give and share.
When we strive for perfection, we end up disappointing ourselves. Strive to always do your best – but accept your limitations and energy without self-criticism. Avoiding negativity about yourself will keep you healthy.
This is easier said than done … remember you are loved because you are you. It is “grace” to accept yourself and your good intentions without judgment.
