A family called me about one of their younger family members (under 30) who had multiple issues and they were worried about the “failure to launch” syndrome. You know those kids who never leave home?
When I heard all the issues and the family’s love for this person, it became clear that what they needed was a Care Manager who was skilled at working with all the players in someone’s life with the end goal being the highest quality of life and joy for the individual of concern.
Care Managers work with people of all ages and can take away the burden from the family with a gentle touch, loving heart, good clinical skills and professional experience to lead the way.
There is no reason a family should feel stuck with young people who are fearful of the “launch”. It is a scary world out there but there are many of us that are honored to be “home base” to allow the individual the dignity they deserve to be their own person and, at the same time, support the family who needs to let go and allow the launch to be successful.
