Did you know that California has a free program that benefits all state residents that might have difficulty using or managing effectively their existing telephone? It is called California Telephone Access Program (CTAP) and to date it has helped over 650,000 Californian’s with vision, hearing, mobility, speech and/or memory impairments to effectively be in touch and communicate – something we all take for granted! And best yet, it has no age or income requirements.
The website is easy to find: www.ddtp.org which stands for: the Deaf and Disabled Telecommunications Program. From there you select the link to Applications and in three easy steps, a new phone will be on its way.
#1: Download and Print the application in the language you desire
#2: Contact your Doctor to complete the section of the application certifying the impairment of the person to use the phone
#3: Mail, email or fax in the application to a local DDTP office for processing. And that’s it!
As a Certified Professional Care Manager, I have clients who have benefited from these wonderful phones to help them stay in touch, manage and communicate in a manner that was easy, uncomplicated and simplified. Give it a try today and help someone you care for stay in touch!
