How often is Alzheimer’s disease diagnosed? Approximately 5.3 million Americans have Alzheimer’s and not all of them are over 65. In fact, approximately 200,000 individuals are under the age of 65 according to the Alzheimer’s Association Facts and Figures of 2015.
Almost two thirds are women. By 2025, the number of people over 65 will reach 7.1 million – an increase of 40%. This growing problem will be a challenge for families, communities and the health system. If you’re wondering how often is Alzheimer’s disease diagnosed, these are important facts to know.
It is very important to not assume a little memory loss or difficulty following the thread of a story isn’t worth exploring. Not because you necessarily want this diagnosis – but these early symptoms might be treated and/or lifestyle changes could slow the progression of this illness.
Eldercare Services will be offering free a “memory screening” the entire week of November 2nd. If you are worried about yourself or a family member this could be the start of getting you on the right path early.
